This year marks a significant milestone as the conference comes to our hometown.

Another success story. A magnificent renovation at Queenwood School for Girls in Mosman NSW . Our team Installed a 7mm Pulastic Pure System in a stunning two tone grey combination. As you can see from the images, the school logo and colourful lines really pop on this monochromatic backdrop.

The old tiled system was removed and remedial works were quite extensive. While this project was a logistical challenge, our team delivered something truley exceptional as you can see via the photos.

Mr Peter Blatch said “I would just like to say that Jack and the team have been a pleasure to work with, they always had a great attitude and we’re always respectful and mindful of the space they were working in and up held the schools standards. I know this job has had it challenges and Jack was always open to suggestions from us on how to resolve some of those issues and was able to communicate well if those ideas wouldn’t work. When dealing with Jack and the team you can tell that he and team take big pride in delivering a great product for both the customer and Aura Sports flooring and this was shown from start to finish of the jobs. They always kept the place clean and tidy and equipment stored safety.”

Taking Live Fearless to new heights!

Recently Live Fearless Champion Tracey Murrin celebrated her 7th year of the Challenge by taking on a personal fear, the fear of heights!

The Doing it for Declan – Aura Sport team climbed the Brisbane Story Bridge.

"I am terrified of heights, so I thought what better challenge to get into the spirit of Live Fearless than to climb the bridge." Tracey said.

"I am so incredibly grateful to my wonderful colleagues for getting behind me this year and supporting the LFC. I already knew that I had the best team of people around me, and once again they proved that. Having been diagnosed with Crohns Disease 19 years ago, I have had some major ups and downs and my amazing Aura Family have always been there to show there support."

Aura Sports National Sales Manager, Tracey Murrin, has recently reached a 7-year continuous milestone as an Ambassador for The Live Fearless Challenge – supporting and raising awareness for Crohn’s & Colitis Australia’s support services.

“I am certainly not taking for granted that I am extremely lucky to work where I do and with the team of people that I work with. A common story that I hear time and time again from fellow IBD’ers is that having this disease can be extremely hard in the workplace. Well, I think we need to help educate the workplace…”

Aura Sports National Sales Manager, Tracey Murrin, has recently reached a 7-year continuous milestone as an Ambassador for The Live Fearless Challenge – supporting and raising awareness for Crohn’s & Colitis Australia’s support services. Funds raised from this year’s challenge support services, research initiatives, education and advocacy programs for the Chrohn’s and Colitis community.

Tracey was diagnosed with Crohn’s disease over 19 years ago, which meant numerous hospital visits, surgeries and sick days.

“Having been with my employer for 25 years I am very blessed to have an understanding employer and work colleagues that know about my health struggles and have given me so much support. I know not everyone is so lucky.’

“A lot of stories I have heard break my heart, it is hard enough to hold down a job on the bad days, with fatigue, pain, running to the toilet etc… but to have to also combat not being believed or understood or even feeling like you must hide your illness due to the stigma is not acceptable. This surely must lead to having such feelings of frustration and be unbelievably hard.”

Top 8 tips for choosing your next sports floor

After three decades of sports flooring experience, we’ve learnt a bit about what works best across a variety of applications. Here are our top 8 tips when choosing a sports floor:

Uniformity in the play surface. A floor that has an inconsistent playing surface will slow down play, and in turn cause injury.
Layered timber or higher grade plantation grown timber used in flooring like the Helsinki and Bio-Channel system is the best fit for high level activity sports flooring.
Ensure you have either a factory finished coating or as a minimum a high quality site applied polyurethane coating on your timber floor to aid in friction and prevent slippage.
For high traffic multipurpose areas, investigate a Pulastic (polyurethane) sports floor, the synthetic system is the optimal flooring for schools and multipurpose halls.
Look out for a FIBA certified flooring supplier — the rigorous testing ensures that your floor will meet the high standards set by the industry, like force reduction, wear resistance and more.
Talk to an expert. It’s important to get the right advice for what you need from an experienced sports flooring professional.
Visual impact, a little extra investment can add so much excitement and wow factor to your floor

Sports floors and retractable seating: why compatibility and quality matters

Modern, retractable seating systems can transform a hall into an auditorium in an instant, but cutting corners can end badly for multipurpose sports floors.

Built to withstand the punishment dished out from thousands upon thousands of feet over the course of decades, sports floors would appear fairly uncomplicated on face value. It’s just a floor, right? Well, yes and no. When it comes to the lifespan and performance of sports flooring, it’s all in the detail.

Not all floors are created equal

Sports flooring is manufactured and installed for very specific purposes, and as a result, it must respond predictably and reliably. They’re dynamic, complex and responsive structures, with multiple layers and load bearing abilities for absorbing impacts. Sports floors are engineered to deform under loading and impact to help avoid sports injuries, but they mustn’t deform in such a way that impacts on adjacent users (like gymnastics equipment).

How much can a floor bear?

And just like gymnastics, it’s all about achieving the right balance. While sports floors are primarily designed for loadings imposed from running and jumping, they must also be able to deal with repeated loadings and motions from heavy equipment like tables and chairs. Take retractable seating systems for example — if compatibility and quality take a back seat when speccing up such a project, very expensive mistakes can occur.

Patty Mills jumps on board as official Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games Ambassador

National Basketball Association (NBA) and Australian basketball star, Patrick ‘Patty’ Mills became the seventh official Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games (GC2018) Ambassadorin the Games host citytoday.

The announcement was made by Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games Corporation (GOLDOC) Chairman, Peter Beattie AC at local school,Keebra Park State High School.

Canberra-born Millsplays for theSan Antonio Spurs and was a member of their NBA championship winning team in 2014. Hehas competed for the Australian Boomers at the past three Olympic Games.

Widely recognised as one of Australia’s best basketball exports, Mills is an inspiration for many young Australians and a leader within Indigenous communities across the country.

Mills is the seventh of a select group of high profile figures who will assist GOLDOC with the promotion of the 4-15 April 2018 Games to Australia and the rest of the world.

The popularbasketballer joins Cathy Freeman OAM, Sally Pearson OAM, Cameron McEvoy, Anna Meares OAM, Laura Geitz and Kurt Fearnley OAMas a welcome member of the GC2018 Ambassador family.

As part of his ambassador role, Mills will embark on a Far North Queensland tour in early August, including stops in GC2018 event cities Cairns and Townsville that will play an integral part in the GC2018 Basketball competition, hosting the preliminary rounds.

To mark the occasion, Mills was presented with a commemorative surfboard – an iconic keepsake of the Gold Coast lifestyle.

Also in attendance today wasGOLDOC CEO Mark Peters, GOLDOC Board Member and three-time basketball Olympian Perry Crosswhite AM,Uncle Ted Williams who provided the Welcome to Country and Keebra State High School staff and students.

GC2018 Ambassador Program

With under 260 days to go until GC2018, ambassadors will share their knowledge of the Gold Coast, Queensland, Australia and the Games with the world.

They will be integral the successful delivery of the biggest event in Australia in a decade.

The GC2018 Ambassador Program ultimately helps GOLDOC achieve its vision of staging a great Games in a great city leaving great memories and great benefits for all.

It also aims to specifically address one of the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games Corporation’s key objectives – to engage and harness the enthusiasm of our communities.

The ambassadors will promote GC2018 as a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to experience a world-class celebration of sport, art and culture and encourage wide participation in GC2018 programs and initiatives.

Their involvements will also help build an international media profile for GC2018 and interest in GC2018 milestone initiatives such as ticketing, merchandise, volunteering and the Queen’s Baton Relay.

Together they will help us Share the Dream of GC2018 with the world.

Commonwealth Games Ambassadors

Commonwealth Games traditionally utilise a number of official ambassadors to spread the word of The Friendly Games.

Eight high profile Scottish sports people and entertainment identities were the ‘faces’ of the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games.

They were: Jessica Ennis-Hill (track & field), Nicola Adams (boxer), Michael Jamieson (swimmer), Allan Wells (track & field), Sir Chris Hoy (cyclist), Rebecca Adlington (swimmer), Billy Connolly (comedian) and Martin Compston (actor/comedian).

Earlier this year Aura Sports supplied and installed 3,600m3 of our Engineered Sprung Timber Sports Flooring “Helsinki” which has been designed specifically to cater to Netball, at the State Netball Centre in Perth. Aura have had fantastic feedback from Netball WA with comments such as:

“Our West Coast Fever athletes have found the floor at the State Netball Centre to be of a high quality, allowing them to train at a high intensity week after week. One senior WA Netball League athlete also made the comment that for the first time in many years, she has been able to play back to back games as the floor cushioned the impact, reducing her ongoing Achilles tendon issues. This kind of feedback gives us great confidence in the Helsinki floor and we hope to see thousands of netball athlete’s benefit from playing and training at the State Netball Centre.”
